North Myrtle Beachs Alabama Theatre brings the heat for entertainment

08 Nov 2015 | By: Beach Vacations

The Alabama Theatre in North Myrtle Beach houses some of the hottest shows on the Grand Strand.

Of course, part of its appeal is rooted in its being founded by Alabama – the legendary country music band that played as Wild Country back in the day as the house band for seven summers at The Bowery, one of Myrtle Beach’s most celebrated bars.

The theatre’s founding was a payback of sorts to Myrtle Beach and its surrounding areas for supporting the band before fame from 1973 to 1980 while performing at The Bowery.

Don’t let the theatre’s history and name fool you though. The Alabama Theatre is more than a little bit of country and has a whole lot of rock ‘n’ roll.

It is an all inclusive entertainment haven where some of the biggest stars of today and yesterday come to awe crowds with the extraordinary talent that garnered them their celebrity.

Since the theatre opened in June 1993 at Barefoot Landing, it has become a favorite of locals and tourists for obvious and not-so obvious reasons.

Its variety show simply called “One,” which is held from February to October, is entertainment on fire. It sizzles from beginning to end. There is fevered singing and dancing with patches of comedy to keep you amused during intermission.

Bob Wood, Alabama Theatre’s president, said the place is set apart because of its depth of talent and its scope of genres.

“One” is a fabulous mixture of various forms of music, including pop, gospel and country.

Talent is pooled for the show from around the world and around the corner – you will see performers from Belgium and England, as well as performers who are Myrtle Beach residents.

When cast members have time off and “One” isn’t in production, guest artists such as Smokey Robinson and The Temptations featuring Otis Williams, a founder and the last living survivor of the original group, perform instead.

The theater gets the Christmas spirit each year and showcases its yearly production of “The South’s Grandest Christmas Show” from November through December.
