If you're like thousands of other families, you're probably preparing for your Myrtle Beach spring break or summer vacation in the coming months. Also, like many families, you might be working on your budget to make sure you don't break the bank on your vacation to Myrtle Beach. If you've already booked with Beach Vacations then you've done great by reserving your Myrtle Beach condo or beach house at an unbeatable price. But did you know there are plenty of fantastic free activities around the Grand Strand to help make lifelong memories on your trip to the area? Here are a few of our favorites:
Located on the corner of Farrow Parkway and Kings Highway at the entrance of The Market Common, Warbird Park features an exhibit of several US Air Force fighter jets that have been maintained in pristine condition. The Market Common area sits on the former Myrtle Beach Air Force base which operated until 1993 and this area commemorates the service and sacrifice of the brave men and women who served in the Air Force to protect our nation. In addition to the jets on display, Warbird Park also features a POW/MIA Memorial and a Wall of Honor that is dedicated to the military and civilian workers who served the Myrtle Beach Air Force base from 1941 to 1993.
Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon D. Chapin Art Museum
You may not think of art when thinking about Myrtle Beach, but at the Franklin G. Burroughs - Simeon D. Chapin Art Museum you can peruse world class works of art in the media of painting, sculpture and photography. While donations are accepted, entry is free and the museum is open six days a week (closed on Mondays). The museum features a fantastic rotating exhibit schedule showcasing works by local and nationally-renowned artists, often centering on themes central to Myrtle Beach, coastal Carolina and the south. One of the most popular permanent displays is the Bishop Collection of Antique Maps and Historical Prints, featuring ornate maps from the "golden age of cartography" dating back as far as 1606.
